About Village Dental of Liverpool

At Village Dental of Liverpool, our ultimate goal is to keep our patients happy. Have you been to other places where you just wanted something fixed and ended up getting an expensive treatment plan forced down your throat (no dental pun intended)? Well, what we do here is start by addressing the actual reason you came to see us. We will discuss ALL your options (not just the expensive ones) and make suggestions based on what will work best for you right now and in the future. Now, don't get us wrong- we won't just do whatever you want if it is not in your best interest or of course if it's inappropriate treatment. But if you have a viable option between say a $200 filling and $900 crown, we aren't going to force you to do the crown. Do you have a toothache and need a root canal? We won't judge you if you decide you would rather just have the tooth pulled.
After we've dealt with the main reason you're here, we hope you stay with us! We will of course discuss with you becoming a regular patient of ours, and suggest scheduling a cleaning, some x-rays, and an exam. That way we can catch anything that may be going on before it becomes a bigger problem. And again, we will make sure you understand all your options and help you figure out what is best FOR YOU!
Experienced Dental Professionals
Dr. Greg Herman and his staff have years of experience. Dr. Herman has been practicing for 25+ years. He has worked in all kinds of settings, from public health, corporate dentistry, and private practice. He finds running his own office to be the most fulfilling, because he is able to practice the way he wants to, in the best interests of his patients , with nobody telling him what to do ( ie how to make more money for them ).
Dr. Herman performs all kinds of dental procedures, from fillings and crowns to root canals, extractions, and making dentures. Some he likes more than others, so he'll discuss it with you. One of Dr. Herman's best abilities is knowing when something is beyond his skill set, such as a particularly crazy extraction or root canal. In this case, he'll refer you to the right specialist (rather than risk hurting you so he can make more money).
Finally, for those who care about this kind of stuff: Dr. Herman is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. He went to Tufts University Dental School in Boston, and did a residency at St.Luke's in Utica. He loves living in Central New York now since it's kind of in the middle. In his free time, Dr. Herman likes to spend time with his friends and family, and if it's winter time he's probably watching a hockey game (He loves his Pittsburgh Penguins and hopes that won't make you not want to see him).

Our office
Our office is just a little grey house in front of Sharkey's Bar on Rt. 57 in Liverpool. We are across from Dunkin' Donuts. It can be easy to miss so pay attention!
Inside you'll find our office small but tidy and comfortable. Nothing fancy, no granite counter tops or flat screen TV's, but we'd rather keep our overhead low instead of wowing you with things that in reality the patients are paying for.....
Our staff
Besides Dr. Herman, we have a great hygienist, Susan . At our front desk there is Caitlin to help you with your scheduling and insurance questions . Also at our front desk is Kathy, who supports Caitlin and will also help you with scheduling and general questions.
A few things about dentures
Are you in need of replacing old dentures or some or all of your teeth with dentures? Do you need some bad teeth removed first? Did you think that the only place you can get that done is at some big corporate dental outfit because they bombard the public with their marketing? Well guess what? You don't- we do all the same stuff here. In fact, Dr. Herman used to work at a place like that and he has extracted thousands of teeth and made hundreds of dentures. It is one of his favorite things to do for patients in need, and he's good at it! Here at Village Dental of Liverpool, he has been able to streamline the process, improve the quality of the denture, as well as the overall patient experience. So if you have questions about that stuff, or are unhappy with your experience somewhere else, come see us and let's do something about it!
Dr. Herman is really tired of people coming in who hate their dentures from somewhere else or worse, don't even wear them. So whether it's new and you hate it or it's old and it just doesn't fit that great anymore, bring your current dentures in for an evaluation. Dr. Herman will look at it and give you an honest answer about what can be done. Maybe you need a new one, but you might just need an adjustment or a reline to make it fit and feel better. Don't believe that just because it's 5 years old that you need a new one- sometimes getting used to a new denture is way harder than using your older worn one that you are used to, so what good is that?

Look- the mouth is not an easy environment to work in. Have you ever tried building something in the dark, or getting something to stick underwater? Exactly....
With that being said, Dr. Herman stands behind his work. If anything he does for you fails within a year, through no fault of your own ( such as chewing on ice and removing beer bottle caps with your teeth), we'll fix it at no charge to you. If it looks like we need to find a new way of doing something, we'll discuss it with you. Dentistry isn't perfect and sometimes things don't work out, but we will always do our best to accomodate you and the situation!

Got an Emergency?
Dr. Herman is available after hours
It always seems that emergencies happen in the evening or worse, during the weekend. Add to that most dental offices are closed on Friday and you can easily find yourself out of luck with a dental emergency. Most physicians and ER's don't know too much about treating dental emergencies either- and usually end their evaluation of you with , "Call your dentist ASAP."
Well, Dr. Herman does his best to at least be available by phone to his patients, but even if you haven't yet been to our office, don't hesitate to call. If Dr. Herman doesn't answer, leave a message and he'll do his best to call you back.
A few points:
1) Do not call Dr. Herman's emergency number during regular office hours. Call the office directly
at 315-453-3003
2) If something is broken or a restoration failed, you will most likely be asked to come in during
regular office hours, as Dr. Herman does not meet patients at the office after hours. Your best
bet if this is your situation is to call the office and leave a message, and you will be called back
during regular office hours to schedule an appointment.
3) If you are experiencing pain and/or swelling, Dr. Herman will most likely prescribe an antibiotic
for you. Pain medications will not be prescribed until you are seen in the office. Dr Herman does not prescribe any controlled substances/ narcotics such as codeine or vicodin.
4) If you are experiencing swelling that is causing your eye to close or the swelling extends under
jaw or into your neck, or if your have suffered significant facial trauma, please go to a hospital
ER immediately as these can be dangerous and potentially life threatening situations
